Statement of Purpose
I am Yashu Yang, a Chinese student born in Chaoshan city, the south part in China. The people of this region in China enjoy the reputation of being born with business mind, because it is estimated that top 100 super rich men in China mostly are Chaoshan people. Hence, I am interested in business influenced by a region which full of commercial atmosphere I was living in. My father, he is a business men encouraging me to be a business woman. I believe the MS in Management will allow me achieve my goal of a business woman.
I was studying International Economy and Trade in my undergraduate. It is relevant to business because I was studying financial and economic courses, but not specific in management. A major course about international cargo transportation and insurance clauses really attracted me because it taught whole processes of completing an international trade, including understandings of contracts, shipment and payment methods. Because of this course, we attained ten-days internship in Canton Fair, which was the biggest import and export fair held in Guangzhou, China. I really enjoyed this work experience, because it was the first time I communicated with business men from all over the world.
There was an experience which deepen my mind to learn management knowledge even though I did not have any long-working experience. I had a friend, who was running a pharmacy and when I met him, he was promoting a health care product called ginger tea. This product was popular for health care for women. It reminded me that there were at least 80% female students in my college. An idea to sell the product in my college was raised. Through a set of preparations, I started my small business in college and I sold 500 boxes of ginger tea at the first month.
I started to learn academic English and then pathway program because I was poor in English proficiency. Now, I believe I have made progress in English. I am studying English, academic writing and professional business knowledge in pathway program and that basic knowledge helps me prepare upcoming graduate study in Management.
The several reasons I chose Mason are as follow. First, I learned Mason is a comprehensive university which provides various major choices for students. Second, Mason is inclusive because it accommodates diverse students from all over the world. Third, and the most important reason I chose Mason because its business school enjoys high evaluations. As I mentioned above, I own related knowledge in undergraduate school and I have a strong interest and potential to be a business woman, thus, I believe I am qualified to be accepted by this program. If I was accepted by business department, I would be committed to study management and try to exert my values in management study. I am a person that prefer thinking and hence, I have capacity of acute insight. Meanwhile I enjoy thinking. I consider these two strengths can help me build peaceful and strong-minded inner world, which urge me to be calm down and focus on studying.
The degree of MS in Management can provide me a higher work platform than people who just own bachelor degree because I am equipped more professional knowledge. Once I graduate from Mason, I would like to enter an enterprise and work for becoming a senior manager, or I will start my own business.
I firmly believe I inherit the quality of loving to do business and the courage to challenge. Moreover, I have sincere studying attitude for learning well in management field. Hence, I frankly request that I can be accepted by business college of Mason.
